In Adachi’s comment following toho In Jimbochou’s news post, he notes that the adaptation rights to the novels were previously sold to another Chinese company that no longer exists. (Jiaxuan Global Pictures had previously announced in 2017 that it was working on an unspecified “screen adaptation”.) Adachi speculated that the adaptation rights might be sold to a different Chinese company along with other adaptation rights, but requests of any kind. Contact the company involved so that it can have a better grip on the situation. Adachi asked fans to remain calm until he could confirm the status of the adaptation. Adachi remarked that he “couldn’t understand that country” in reference to China.
Following on from Adachi’s comment, toho Jimbocho took down his post and issued an apology, although the apology still included an image referencing the original post. Adachi then deleted his original tweets commenting on the situation, and apologized for his remarks that offended Chinese fans.
