As Humphrey and the Shipton Abbott team investigate the disappearance of the Colbert family, a blast from Martha’s past deals another blow to the pair’s relationship.

With the couple coming to terms with a heartbreaking miscarriage, Martha was focused on opening her cafe. Unable to secure a loan for contractors, she is shocked to learn that Humphrey had bought a houseboat without consulting her.

However, a solution quickly presented itself in the form of vineyard owner Archie, who offered to become a junior partner in the café.

Martha was eager to reveal the news to her fiancé, but was not too happy to reveal the pair’s prior engagement to Archie and neither was Humphrey, who was dealing with feelings of jealousy for the rest of the episode.

The reveal of a former partner, who appears to have the seal of approval from Martha’s own mother, was also a cause for concern among viewers – who voiced their opinion all over Twitter.

One viewer wrote, “Yeah, Archie is the type of guy you need to worry about Humphrey. He looks like Jamie Bamber. You’re in big trouble.”

While another said: “Anyone else getting the feeling that Anne is going to try and get Martha back at Archie?”

Not all viewers were too pleased with the prospect of a love triangle for the couple.

“I really hope that Archie and Humphrey just become good mates, without any love triangles, without any tension and it’s also because ‘the ex is better than me and I’m pathetic and insecure, even though professionally I’m on top. ‘I game’ is a trope done to death,” said another viewer, hoping for a happy resolution to the scenario.

Despite Humphrey’s opening the cafe to resolve the Colbert family matter (which itself deals with the tragic fallout of an affair), the couple were later able to reconnect, obviating any cause for concern.

But will Archie’s presence return to cause problems for the couple as they navigate the road ahead?
