Britain’s prime minister has dismissed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s security concerns – saying that cars are “not really my priority” in New York.
Rishi Sunak was on Friday answering questions about the couple’s “disastrous car chase” after an award ceremony in midtown Manhattan earlier this week.
Sunak told the BBC that he was “not aware of any specific incident” when asked if he had concerns about the privacy and safety of members of the royal family.
“Normally, I would not comment on anything to do with the royal family,” he said.
A spokesperson for the couple – who were in the Big Apple on Tuesday for Markle to accept the Woman of Vision award at a gala event for the MS Foundation for Women – claimed they were involved in a two-hour pursuit with the paparazzi, resulting in “a number of near collisions.
The incident occurred after the couple – their first public appearance since the coronation of King Charles earlier this month – left the Ms Foundation for Women’s 50th-anniversary celebration on their way to a friend’s house on the Upper East Side.
The NYPD and Mayor Eric Adams underestimated the car chase scenario.
