Celebrities are frequently targeted and lampooned in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. The first installment of Rian Johnson’s film series was more openly political in its tone and humour, but the latest installment shows how little it cares about how some celebrities utilize their notoriety to advance their careers or believe that it makes their products superior. There are several gags throughout the film regarding real, specific celebrities, such as Jared Leto and Jeremy Renner, in addition to the fact that most of the main characters in it are archetypes of celebrities, albeit playing fake ones. There will be some minor spoilers after the complete spoilers!
One of the first items handed to the movie’s characters when they arrive at Miles Bron’s (Edward Norton) Greek vacation home is a bottle of hard kombucha, which Bron notes was sent by none other than Leto himself. Leto doesn’t actually sell hard kombucha as far as we know right now, but the thought of Leto having such a thing sounds natural while also being objectively humorous. Later still, Marvel’s Hawkeye, Jeremy Renner, makes a joke about celebrity-produced, small-batch spicy sauce. The Jeremy Renner app should have been mentioned in the film, but it isn’t. Following are complete spoilers for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
While Jeremy Renner’s fake spicy sauce does significantly contribute to the plot of the movie, Jared Leto’s hard kombucha has little to do with it other than Benoit Blanc’s amusing delivery of the line, “That’s hard kombucha, that’s Jared Leto’s hard kombucha.”
