Margaret Hughes
Actress Margaret Hughes was also known as Peg Hughes. Born on 29 May 1630, Margaret was the first professional English stage actress. He first performed on 8 December 1660. She played Desdemona in William Shakespeare’s Othello. He also starred in the drama The Iceland Princess.
India’s first female actress
Durgabai Kamat is the first female actress of India. She played the role of Parvati in the film Mohini Bhasmasur released in 1913. Around 1900, there were no women working in films. Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, used to play the roles of men and women in his films. But Dadasaheb Phalke decided to give Durgabai Kamat a chance to act in his film Mohini Bhasmasur. Durgabai Kamat’s daughter Kamalabai also played a child artist role in Mohini Bhasmasur. Kamalabai is the first child artist of Indian cinema.
Alice Guy-Blache
Alice Guy-Blache was a French pioneering filmmaker. She was one of the producers who produced films based on fictional stories. She is also the first female director. It is also said that she was the only female film producer in the world from 1896 to 1906. Fatima Begum was the first woman director of Indian cinema. His first film ‘Bulbul-e-Paristan’ was released in 1926.
Helen Gardner
Helen Gardner is said to have been the first woman to set up her own film production company. She founded the film production company “The Helen Gardner Picture Players”. Released in 1912, Cleopatra was the first film produced by “The Helen Gardner Picture Players” company. The film also starred Helen Gardner.
