‘Ja Simran Ja…’ was shot in 10 retakes of the iconic ‘Two’ scene from DDLJ; Where was the shooting done? – News18 Lokmat

Mumbai, March 11 : Aditya Chopra, son of Bollywood veteran director Yash Chopra, made a splash with his very first film. The 1995 film Dil Wale Dulhania Le Jayenge was one of the biggest hits of the 90s. Made in just Rs 4 crore, the film earned Rs 89 crore in India. It earned 13 crores in overseas. The songs, dialogues and scenes of this film are still remembered. ‘Maratha Mandir’ is running in the theater for 27 years.

The film’s iconic dialogue ‘Ja Simran Ja… Ji Le Apni Zindagi..’ is appreciated even today. But it was not easy for Kajol to run behind the train every 20 minutes in the hot sun, railway track and train noise. In an interview to Huffington Post, Kajol said, ‘The train scene was not easy. We had to do more than 10 retakes for this scene. Running every 20 minutes on the railway track under the scorching sun was difficult and we had to focus on the expression as well. The wind of the train used to blow my hair. Kajol was also improving her acting during this film.

During the shooting of the film, choreographer Saroj Khan used to teach Kajol to be shy behind the scenes. For the train scene, Kajol was first given a demo by director Aditya Chopra. After this Kajol has also worked in the same style. During the shooting of this film, no one had any idea that it would become the biggest hit of the whole country. The film’s climax was shot over three days at Apta Railway Station in Mumbai.

In an interview to Marie Claire, Kajol said, ‘It took three days to shoot the film at the station. I cried for three days in a row. My eyes were red and a little heavy. I was wearing a heavy lehenga. Shah Rukh Khan had said in the same interview that, ‘I did not know that this film would do so well, earn so much. We had no idea that we would get so much love from the fans during this scene. I would have preferred holding the gun in the film than holding Simran’s hand at that point of time.

Aditya Chopra assisted his father in several films before making his debut. After learning the nuances, he prepared fiercely for his first film. But at the time of the screenplay, Aditya Chopra wanted to cast Tom Cruise as Shah Rukh Khan’s Raj Malhotra. Since this was an Indo American case, such casting could have been done. However, Aditya’s father Yash Chopra categorically denied this. According to IMDb, the character was offered to Saif Ali Khan. But Saif Ali Khan turned down the role.
