we’re only a few days away oscarand host Jimmy Kimmel Has been out on the press circuit promoting the show and his upcoming job as host of the ceremony. Kimmel sought out a veteran comedy actor and former host for advice on how to make things work.
Kimmel announced that he had a simple plan for hosting the Oscars this year, according to CNN, and that was just “telling jokes”. That’s right, he’s not going to rely on musical numbers or gimmicks during the telecast (though there will probably be some surprises), he wants to bring things back to basics.
He said, “I don’t have a lot of talent, so there aren’t a huge number of areas for me to draw from outside to tell jokes.” “I mean, I’m so good at drawing cartoons, so I guess I can sit down and draw caricatures of stars?”
The suggestion to host the show came from none other than previous Oscar host and comedy legend Billy Crystal.
“The best advice I ever got about hosting the Oscars came from Billy Crystal, who told me, ‘Play the room.’ You always have to be mindful of the audience at home and make sure they understand what’s going on, but you also want laughs in the room – and if you don’t get that, it’s not good for the audience. There will be TV.
This meat-and-potatoes is probably in a good way, as a slap-mad Will Smith oversaw last year. What would Kimmel do if something like this happened to her this year?
“Well, I size them up, and, if I’m bigger than them, I beat the S out of them on television. And if it’s rock, I run,” he explained. Hollywood Reporter.
