Keanu Reeves has revealed the heartwarming reason why he continues to star as the titular character 10 years after his debut in the John Wick films.
The stars turned out for the premiere of John Wick: Chapter 4 in London on Monday night, where the 58-year-old actor chatted about the film.
He said why he still plays the part: ‘I love his humor, I love his desire, I love his sadness and it’s really fun to play him in these movies, these movies are fun.’
Suggesting that John’s character tested his limits, Keanu added to Metro: ‘I try really hard, but with John, you just have to try a little bit harder.’
Keanu led the arrivals at the premiere and looked dapper in a dark green corduroy suit, while leading ladies Natalia Tena and Reena Swayamma cut glam figures.
Nearly a decade after Keanu’s John Wick turned deadly violent when his beloved dog was killed, the killer may just have a new four-legged friend in the final trailer for John Wick: Chapter 4.
The first John Wick film found the title character living a peaceful life in retirement, with a beloved dog as his companion, the last gift from his dying wife.
When a group of assassins make the mistake of killing his beloved dog, hitman Vic comes out of retirement and goes on a bloody rampage.
Now with John fighting for his life, the final trailer (via Lionsgate Movies) features the mysterious hitman organization known as the High Table … which comes in the middle of ‘Vick Week’ that kicked off It is reported that the film will be about three hours long.
The trailer also teases the 2001 Nas track Got Ur Yourself a Gun (which samples The Sopranos theme song Woke Up This Morning) and a new canine friend.
The trailer opens with a mysterious DJ saying, “This song goes to you Mr. Vic,” as she plays the new Nas track.
Vic is seen meeting The Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne), who presents him with a new (presumably bulletproof) suit with ’42 regulars, right?’
‘Yeah,’ says Vic, as Winston (Ian McShane) says, ‘and so it begins,’ as we see Vic taking out several killers in a packed nightclub.
Shimazu (Hiroyuki Sanada) is seen briefly, as is the Marquis (Bill Skarsgård), as Winston tells John, “Challenge him to single combat.”
John is seen meeting with the Marquis at a cafe in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, as the Marquis tells him, ‘If you win, you’ll have your freedom,’ though it’s still unclear whether John’s Who is the opponent?
Another shot shows Akira (Reena Swayamma) stabbing a man with two knives as he crawls up a flight of stairs, while we see John taking on multiple enemies at once on the roof.
We get a new glimpse of Karen (Lance Reddick) and another shot of John in another shootout at a rainy nightclub.
John is seen driving his black Boss 429 Ford Mustang (without the driver’s side door) as we get a glimpse of a new character named Kyla (Scott Adkins), who says ‘The Baba Yaga’ is and laughs.
We also get a new look at Cain, played by martial arts legend Donnie Yen, who is seen showing off his proficiency with a samurai sword with a glimpse in Shamier Anderson’s tracker.
The Elder (George Georgiou) is heard saying, ‘The only way to freedom and peace that John Wick has is in death,’ as John the Elder is seen riding into the desert to visit.
‘Yeah, not really,’ John says of his supposed predicament before pointing a gun at her.
John is seen in another shootout near the chaotic Champs-Élysées in Paris, overlooking the Arc de Triomphe… when he finds a surprising ally: a new dog, running on the roofs of cars and trying to kill. John chops off a man’s arm.
The final shot shows the dog looking at John in a whisper as John looks back at him… as the trailer ends.
John Wick: Chapter 4 also stars Natalia Tena, Amy Cowan, Marco Zaror and Clancy Brown, which is coming to theaters March 24.
It will only be going up against IFC Films’ The Lost King starring Sally Hawkins, though there are no box office projections available at this time.
