On Friday, February 7, 2025, Kyoto Animation announced that their new series, “City the Animation,” will premiere in July 2025. They also shared a fresh visual to give us a sneak peek.
This anime is based on the “City” manga by Keiichi Arawi, who also created “Nichijou.” The story follows the everyday adventures of three college students: Midori Nagumo, Niikura, and Wako Izumi. It’s a mix of humor and slice-of-life moments that many readers have enjoyed.
Kyoto Animation hasn’t released a new series in six years, especially after the unfortunate arson incident. So, this comeback is significant for them and their fans.
The new visual they shared is quite creative. It showcases memorable scenes from the manga in various colors, forming the word “City.” This design hints at the fun and lively nature of the upcoming show.
They’ve also revealed more about the voice cast. Yoshihisa Kawahara will voice Tsurubishi Makabe, the owner and head chef of Makabe’s Western Bistro. Miyu Irino, known for voicing Todomatsu in “Mr. Osomatsu,” will play his son, Tatewaku Makabe. Ayaka Nanase lends her voice to Matsuri Makabe, Tatewaku’s younger sister. Other cast members include Azusa Tadokoro as Eri Amakazari (Matsuri’s friend) and Yu Wakui as Riko Izumi.
Previously, they announced that Mikako Komatsu will voice Midori Nagumo, Aki Toyosaki will play Niikura, and Yui Ishikawa will be Wako Izumi.
The series is directed by Taichi Ishidate at Kyoto Animation. Tamami Tokuyama is the character designer and chief animation director. Yota Tsuruoka handles sound direction, and Kana Miyata is the color designer. Shiori Yamazaki serves as the art director, with Kouki Ueda as the photography director.
Fans are eagerly waiting for “City the Animation” to hit the screens this July. With its talented team and engaging story, it’s shaping up to be a must-watch series.
