Masakazu Ooi’s ‘Oku-san’ and ‘Isekai Furin II’ to End Soon

Masakazu Ooi’s beloved manga, Oku-san, is coming to an end. The official X (formerly Twitter) account of Shonengahosha’s Young King Ours GH magazine made the announcement on Friday. Fans can expect the final chapter to be published in the magazine’s November issue, set to release on September 17.

Oku-san has been a long-running series, first appearing in Monthly Young King magazine back in 2009. The story follows Kyōko Okita, affectionately known as Oku-san, who moves into the Clover apartment complex with her husband. The manga explores the everyday lives of Oku-san and the other residents of the apartment complex. It’s a slice-of-life story that has charmed readers for years with its heartwarming and relatable moments.

The end of the manga was first hinted at on July 16 when the magazine announced that the series would conclude in two chapters. This news has left fans both nostalgic and eager to see how the story will wrap up.

Throughout its run, Oku-san has built a loyal following. The manga’s 21st compiled book volume was released on November 16, 2023, adding to the collection of this well-loved series.

But that’s not all for Ooi’s work. He and Inumaru recently revealed that their other manga, Isekai Furin II – Michibikareshi Hitozuma-tachi to Bukiyou Tensei Yuusha (which translates to Isekai Affair II: Guided Wives and Clumsy Otherworld Heroes), will also be ending. The ninth and final volume of this series is scheduled to be released in December. This manga is a spinoff of ISEKAI AFFAIR: 10 Years After Defeating the Demon King, the Hero Cheats on His Wife With a Warrior Woman Who Lost Her Husband.

With Oku-san nearing its conclusion and Isekai Furin II also wrapping up, it’s clear that Masakazu Ooi is closing significant chapters in his career. Fans of his work will surely miss these stories, but they also have the final chapters to look forward to, as well as any future projects Ooi might take on.
