Co-Down comedian Patrick Kielty has been confirmed as the new host of RTÉ’s The Late Late Show, taking over from current host Ryan Tubridy.
The Dundrum native has spoken of her excitement at taking on the role of “one of the biggest jobs on television”.
After Ryan Tubridy announced in March that he was leaving the show, Kielty became the show’s fourth presenter for its 61st season the following September.

Speaking to RTÉ, Patrick Kielty said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be the next host of The Late Late Show.
“It is a real honor to follow in the footsteps of Gay, Pat and Ryan as the next Guardians and I cannot thank RTÉ enough for giving me the chance to be part of the next chapter of such an iconic show.
“I’m truly humbled to be a part of Friday Night Live for so many Irish people at home and around the world. I can’t wait to start one of the greatest jobs in television.”
Director of Content, RTÉ Jim Jennings praised Kilty, saying that the new host has big plans for the prime time Friday night show.
He added: “Patrick Kielty is undoubtedly one of Ireland’s finest comedians, a terrific presenter with a depth of experience, and an array of talents who will bring an exciting new dynamic to the show.
“Patrick’s personality and passion will definitely connect with the audience and I look forward to seeing him on screen in September.
“We have very definite ideas already working for the show and we’ll be busy behind the scenes shaping the series for launch. We’ll be back in August to tell you all about it”.
Speaking of his decision to leave the longest running live TV chat show in the world, Tubridy said: “It has been a privilege for me to host The Late Late Show, a national institution for the past 14 years.”
Tubridy will present its final Late Late on Friday 26 May on RTÉ One.
He will continue to present his radio show on RTÉ Radio 1 from 9am to 10am.
