Philip Scofield Resigns

Holly Willoughby has thanked her outgoing co-star for “presenting 13 great years” after she announced she is leaving The Morning Show with immediate effect following an alleged feud between the pair.

In a brief statement after Mr Scofield announced his departure, Ms Willoughby thanked her former colleague for “all his knowledge, his experience and his humour”.

She said: “The sofa won’t feel the same without him.”

Last Saturday (13 May), Philip Schofield released an unprecedented statement in which he admitted that “the last few weeks have not been easy for either of us.”

At the time, he continued to insist that Holly Willoughby was his “rock”.

His last ITV program was on Thursday 18 May, bringing his 21-year presenting role to an abrupt end.

Scofield admitted that “the last few weeks haven’t been easy”, but was initially keen to play down the claims, adding: “We’re best friends – as always, she’s been an incredible support on screen, behind On scenes and on the phone. After more than a decade of presenting ITV’s flagship morning show together, Phillip Scofield’s onscreen partnership with Holly Willoughby has come to an end with the news that he is leaving the show.

talking to Sun Earlier this week, Kelly cited recent reports of “tension” behind the scenes between Willoughby, 42, and co-presenter Scofield, 61.

An emotional Scofield told the audience: “Please don’t ever feel like we get complacent and please don’t think that we never take this for granted. It means a lot to us every year, especially this year.”

The ceremony began nearly a month after Willoughby and Scofield found themselves at the center of a public controversy after they were accused of “jumping the queue” to see Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin lie in state.

ITV bosses defended the presenters, saying they had visited the site as accredited members of the media.

Amid reports that Philip Scofield could be heading Channel Five, what we’ve heard so far would suggest that ITV are very keen to keep him on their channel.

“We look forward to continuing our relationship with Philippa with The British Soap Awards in June and a new peak time series to come,” Kevin Ligo, ITV’s managing director of media and entertainment, said in a statement.

“Philip is one of the best broadcasters of his generation and we thank him on the couch this morning for his two decades of absolutely terrific television.”

Scofield began working on This Morning in 2002, with Holly Willoughby joining him in 2009.

It is unclear what the new “peak time” program is at this point, but it seems that ITV are reluctant to give up on a figure who is widely regarded as one of their top presenting talents.

The 38-year-old singer has presented another strong choice on several occasions since 2013 with his wife Rochelle at odds of 8/1 this morning.

The X Factor singer-turned-presenter, 34, regularly hosted segments on This Morning and has also stepped in to present the show on occasion. It was also announced last month that he was stepping down as presenter of Strictly Come Dancing’s spin-off show It Takes Two. He has 3/1 odds.

The 2010 Big Brother winner, 38, joined the ITV show in 2019 and co-hosted on several occasions as a relief presenter. Gibson, who has carried the program with the likes of Vernon, is given 10/1 odds.

The Italian TV chef, 46, could be a surprise addition to This Morning Coach, with Ladbrokes giving him odds of 25/1.

He rose to fame as a regular cook on the ITV morning show and has since presented cookery programs including Let’s Do Lunch and Gino’s Italian Escapes.
