The 43rd annual London Critics’ Circle Film Awards had a record number of nominations, with nine going to Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin,” and eight going to Charlotte Wells’ “Aftersun.”
Both movies received six nominations each, joining Todd Field’s “Tár” and Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” which each received three nods in the categories of film of the year, director of the year, and screenwriter of the year. The Wonder by Sebastian Lelio received six nominations as well.
The films “The Quiet Girl,” “Decision to Leave,” “Saint Omer,” “EO,” and “RRR” will be competing in the foreign language category.

The 200-member film section of the Critics’ Circle, the oldest critics’ group in the United Kingdom, bestows the prizes. On February 5, 2023, the winners will be declared at London’s May Fair Hotel.
According to Rich Cline, chair of the Critics’ Circle film section, “as always, our nominees stand out from others because our members really view all of the films that are released each year.” “These nominations therefore represent a sample of the very greatest films we saw in 2022. It’s wonderful that we can spotlight movies, creators, and performances each year that merit notice.
