“Fast X” is out in theaters everywhere now and with it there’s been a lot of talk about the film’s many cameos, the cliffhangers previously teased by its stars, and the many twists and turns in the story.
Major spoilers ahead for “Fast X”
The film’s director, Louis Leterrier, has spoken to multiple outlets about some of the creative choices made regarding the film. First, he chats with EW about John Cena’s character Jacob and his death.
In the film’s final action set, Jacob is carrying Dom’s son Brian (Leo Abello Perry) to safety when Dante (JASON MOMOA) kidnaps him. Dom follows her, but Jacob realizes he must protect Dom and the baby – sacrificing himself to kill Dante’s men in a massive explosion.
The move marked the end of Cena’s involvement in the franchise following his debut as a villain in “F9”. Leterrier says the death was an idea he came up with early on after meeting Cena — and the news upset the actor a bit:
“I’m like, ‘That guy may be a badass but not a bad guy. There’s not a mean bone in his body.’ I told John, ‘You’ve got to give your brother the ultimate gift to save your son. Sacrifices have to be made,’ and it bothered him.
I pitched him between two takes because I’m there resetting the camera. I told him this and then he liked it. And it really changed his performance because he understood where he was going. ‘I am going to give so much love then sacrifice really hurts.’ And it really hurts.
Of course, does anyone actually die in this franchise? The series is famous for reviving many seemingly dead characters, and here again at least one cameo returns as Gal Gadot as Gisele – last seen getting out of a plane in “Fast 6”. Went. The reveal raises the obvious question of whether Han (Sung Kang) knew Gisele was alive the whole time.
Gadot confirmed her return a few hours ago, posting photos on Instagram and saying: “Missed my fast family! I’m overwhelmed with excitement. To my fans, your continued love and support is what drives this journey.” Here’s to honoring the legacy, the fans, and the Fast Family we’ve built together!
Meanwhile, the film ends on a cliffhanger in which what appears to be a plane explosion takes out at least four regulars (albeit behind a hill), while Dante prepares to blow up a dam that will trap Dom and his son. can kill
“Fast X Part 2,” whether it is the second part of this story in the middle of a trilogy, is expected to debut in 2025.
