The following article contains major spoilers for HBO. last of us Completely

last of us concluded its two-month, nine-episode run on HBO last week, officially and satisfyingly drawing the curtain on its debut season while leaving a few threads hanging for the inevitable second installment. In “When We’re in Need,” Ellie takes a meat cleaver to James’ throat and dismembers David’s body (well deserved, we guess), Joel makes a split-second, life-changing decision that Meaning all the senseless violence and brutal killings equal nothing.

Unable to stand by and let Ellie die, Joel takes matters into his own hands to save his surrogate daughter. He grabs a rifle, breaks into the hospital, and makes quick work of killing anyone who stands in his way – including Marlene. When a shadowy figure gets away with what appears to be carnage in braids, last of us Fans assumed the survivor to be a character from Naughty Dog’s source material.

Fans thought the faceless figure was the antithesis of Abby Anderson The Last of Us: Part II And possibly a second season of HBO’s hit adaptation. The blink-and-you’ll-miss-it snapshot sparked discourse on Reddit as users slowed down the shot frame by frame (of nothing but a bunch of pixels) to question whether “bread” was a peak at all. Some comments considered it a coincidence and said that the ‘top’ was actually a bag strap. Whether it was intentional or not, the camera trickery in the game certainly took us there a few times.

Apparently, the rumor of Abby’s cameo spread far enough on social media to reach Neil Druckmann, who felt the need to comment and put her to sleep once and for all. On the subject of a “shadowy, seemingly braided figure” confronting Joel in the hallway, Druckmann said he would “kill that rumor” and that “she’s not Abby.” Short and sweet, albeit disappointing, but it makes sense for HBO to keep us guessing and save the big reveal for the second season, which we’re hoping will happen as the script progresses. Will start filming – whenever that can happen.
