The Mother reaches unwanted Rotten Tomatoes milestone despite Netflix opening weekend record

Despite this, Mother — which stars Jennifer Lopez as a retired assassin who comes out of hiding to save her estranged daughter (Lucy Pez) — has enjoyed the biggest 2023 opening weekend ever for any Netflix film.

While Lopez has been praised for her performance in the film, Mother has been poorly received by critics and audiences alike, achieving a critical score of only 45 percent positive on Rotten Tomatoes.

The audience score voted by members of the public is higher, with “Fresh” sitting at 71 percent.
