Kyoto Animation arson case begins main trial on 5 September, with verdict to be announced on 25 January

There will be a total of 32 hearings in the trial during 4 months.

Asahi Shimbun The newspaper reported on Friday that the Kyoto District Court will begin the main trial for the arson murder case that killed 36 people and injured 33 others. Kyoto Animation On 5 September. The court plans to deliver its verdict on January 25, 2024.

There will be a total of 32 hearings in the trial. In September and October, hearings will be held two to three times a week, for a total of 10 hearings for each of these months. There will be five to six hearings every month in November and December.

The Kyoto District Court began pre-trial proceedings on 8 May. The pre-trial was to decide the schedule for the main trial, and also discuss the pre-trial issues and evidence. The presiding judge in the pre-trial is Keisuke Masuda.
