Scream VI could set new franchise box office record on opening weekend



Scream VI has a chance to set the franchise’s best domestic box office record in its opening weekend, with the highly anticipated film aiming to gross $35 million+.

The new film, starring Courteney Cox, Jenna Ortega and Hayden Panettiere, is set for release on March 10, and could break the record held by 2000’s Scream 3, which bombed at the box office. $34.7 million upon its debut.

2022’s Scream earned $30 million on its domestic opening, and with so much fanfare surrounding the franchise’s latest offering, Scream VI could surpass that record.

The latest film takes place 26 years after the original and moves the action from Woodsboro to the mean streets of New York.

The official synopsis reads: ‘Four survivors of the Ghostface murders leave Woodsboro behind for a fresh start in New York City’.

Scream VI’s biggest box office competition will be Creed III, with sci-fi dinosaur flick 65 also released this weekend.

it comes after courtney gave some juicy new details about Upcoming horror sequel.

The actress revealed that she will be taking on the masked serial killer Ghostface.

Several different characters have donned the Ghostface mask over the course of the film series, and their identities are eventually revealed.

However Courtney revealed that in Scream IV, for the first time, her character Gale Withers will have to hold her own against Ghostface without knowing who he is.

‘I have a great scene with Ghostface and it was amazing. I’ve obviously been stabbed a few times, but this time, working with Ghostface and not knowing who’s under the mask, it was really fun,’ she said in a new interview with Variety. ‘Usually by the time I’m being stabbed, I know who it is.’

Courteney is the only star from the first Scream film to remain with the franchise until the new film.

Her ex-husband David Arquette, with whom she first became an item when they made the original Scream, was in the first five pictures before he was killed.

Meanwhile Neve Campbell, who became a boldface name through the slasher series, declined to appear in Scream VI because of money.

Neve revealed in an interview with Deadline last year that she turned down an offer to return for Scream VI because she felt her pay was insufficient.

She said, “I’ve had to work very hard in my career to establish my worth as a woman, especially when it comes to Scream.”

The 49-year-old actress explained, ‘I felt that the offer that was made to me was not equal to the value that I had given to the franchisee.’

Thus far she has been inextricably linked with the franchise, which has grossed over $744 million cumulatively worldwide.’

Courteney had to film a Scream without Neve for the first time, and in a new Variety interview she said of the experience: ‘I miss working with him, but I’m going to support what he thinks is right. ‘
