Recently the lights went out on one of Hollywood’s most famous blocks.
With a little more than 24 hours to go before Oscar showtime, a power outage jeopardized preparations for Sunday’s Academy Awards telecast. Shortly after 1 p.m., a source on site at the Ovation Hollywood complex reported that power was out on the entire block between Highland and Orange Avenues, a part of Hollywood that happens to be the most heavily trafficked block in the city.
Crew and prize insiders were trapped in elevators and on escalators and local store owners were forced to close up shop for the day, according to intel on Twitter. The news comes after a few days of heavy rain in Los Angeles, which is expected to clear up before the awards show begins on Sunday.
It is understood rehearsals are underway inside the Dolby Theater and the outage inside was only temporary, seconds before it went back up.
hollywood reporter has reached out to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power for comment.
The biggest night of the year in film is set to take place at the Dolby Theater on Sunday at 5 p.m. PT, with Jimmy Kimmel hosting the night for the third year in a row.
