The official Twitter account for the second season of Makoto Yukimura’s Vinland Saga television anime has begun broadcasting a short video titled “Episode 6.5 – Drowning in the Shadow” for the anime. The video depicts a sequence not seen in the manga in which Thorfinn, first seen as a member of Askeladd’s raiders, kills some men in the middle of a raid. When he enters a nearby house, he is seen as an adult, seeing a family frightened within.
The manga’s original author, Makoto Yukimura, also commented on the episode.
The second season of the anime debuted on January 9 on Tokyo MX, BS11, and Gifu Broadcasting. In Japan, the anime is available on Netflix and other platforms. Netflix is also streaming the anime outside of China, and Crunchyroll is streaming the season outside of Asia.

The first season’s cast will return for the second season at MAPPA Animation Studio rather than Wit Studio. Shhei Yabuta (director of Inuyashiki Last Hero and Attack on Titan 3D) will return to direct the anime.
Hiroshi Seko (Ajin: Demi-Human, Banana Fish) is once again coordinating and authoring the series scripts. Takahiko Abiru (animation director for Hunter Hunter in 2011) comes back to design the characters. The music is once again composed by Yutaka Yamada (Tokyo Ghoul, Donten ni Warau Gaiden: Ketsubetsu, Yamainu no Chikai).
The first season of the anime debuted in July 2019.
Yukimura debuted the series in Kodansha’s Weekly Shnen Magazine in 2005, but Kodansha eventually transferred it to Afternoon. Yukimura began drawing the manga’s fourth and final arc in November 2019. Over 7 million copies of the series have been sold.
