Did “Thappad” Spark Interest In Stuffed Academy Awards? Or is it certain to be telecast after last year’s surge in viewership re-Return to a new low?
After a 74 percent drop in viewership in more than a decade (to an all-time low of 10.4 million viewers in 2021), viewership for the Oscars is set to increase in 2022.With a telecast that brought back the concept of a host(s) and, yes, featured a physical feud between Will Smith and Chris Rock at 10 p.m.
All told, last year’s telecast attracted a total of 16.6 million viewers (live + same-day numbers), up 60 percent from the final count for 2021 — though still the second-smallest Oscars audience on record. In the demo, the NBC broadcast was up 73 percent with a 3.8 rating.
This year’s ceremony is being hosted by three-timer Jimmy Kimmel and will air on ABC (but isn’t live-streamable anywhere), and better nominees include Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water and award dear everything together everywhere,
Is the audience set to grow further for the biggest night in film industry? Or return to your pandemic-era nostalgia? Review and consider the factors listed below, then cast your vote in this poll (click here if the poll is not visible):
Supporter: Jimmy Kimmel has dominated Hollywood’s biggest night twice before, and is known for not holding back or playing favorites when the zingers fly. Plus, there’s bound to be less awkward banter than last year’s hosting trio of Wanda Sykes, Regina Hall, and (the ever-polarizing) Amy Schumer.
Congress: The last time Kimmel hosted in 2018, he attempted a number of sucker stunts, including that whine where a bunch of stars barged into a theater across the street. That year’s Oscars ended up posting what was at the time the ceremony’s smallest audience: 26.5 million viewers.
everything together everywhere leading the pack this year with 11 nodes including a Best Picture nomination. All Quiet on the Western Front And Banshee of Inishrin were also well recognized, each collecting nine nominations.
Supporter: There’s some drama surrounding this year’s Best Picture race, with legitimate box office megahits like Top Gun: Maverick And Avatar: The Way of Water ambitious and buzzy faced everything together everywhere (Which has won several awards in recent months).
In the Best Actress category, it’s a question whether Michelle Yeoh (eaoooo) will continue to ride its wave of recent victories, or get the best of Cate Blanchett or — in what will be the biggest gasp of the night — to leslieAndrea Riseborough, whose grassroots campaign strategy was accused of violating academy rules.
The supporting actress race, meanwhile, is poised to either give us the first winner from the MCU (wakanda foreverAngela Bassett of) or see eaooooJamie Lee Curtis’s well-earned between stories career.
Congress: Each category is being presented live, on stage this year, while some of last year’s broadcast (unsuccessfully) used pre-taping and splicing. Stare categories.

Supporter: You are bound to recognize 90 percent of these people!
Big question: Who will present the Best Actress Oscar, which is usually handled by the previous year’s Best Actor winner — in this case Will Smith, who is banned from the ceremony? The Academy is marveling at that.
Supporter: Four of this year’s nominated songs are set to be performed: from “Lift Me Up” to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (performed by Rihanna), from “This Is a Life” everything together everywhere (Performed by Stephanie Sue, David Byrne and Son Lux), from “Natu Natu” RRR (Performed by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaal Bhairav) and from “Applause” say it like a lady (Submitted by Sophia Carson and Diane Warren). Additionally, Lenny Kravitz will provide an “In Memoriam” performance.
Congress: to film the sequel due to his busy schedule clown Due to lack of further preparation time, Lady Gaga will not perform “Hold My Hand”. Top Gun: Maverick, There’s no word yet on whether another artist will sing the tune or if Gaga will still attend the ceremony.
Has ‘Thappad’ sparked interest?
Supporter: As a crime as the physical assault on presenter Chris Rock by Will Smith in 2022, it revived the notion that “anything can happen!” Equally awful as the Oscars – during a live award show. In what way would Jimmy Kimmel address or parody the infamous incident?
Congress: More than 12 months later, is there anything more to say or joke about Thappad? Anything, And yet, anyone stepping on the stage Sunday night will try. We already moan.
